Pekinese Stitch is also known as Chinese Stitch. It was worked using silk canvas, on a small scale, row upon row in blended shades to fill shapes.
In old Chinese embroideries this stitch can be found worked 30-40 stitches to the inch. When worked on a larger scale Pekinese stitch creates a braided line.
First work a foundation row of back stitch in a fairly loose manner because the threading will tighten them.
Work Back Stitch in the usual way, then interlace with thread to tone or thread of different color. The stitch is shown open, but the loops should be pulled slightly when working. This stitch can be used as a filling or outline.
Wow, that’s my embroidery! Very cool, I’ve never seen my work on another page before. I like your site, lots of pretty pics and very good info.
